A simple walk home from school and Alyssa found a feather. She promptly stuck it in her hair....as you do. Another 5 minutes later and she saw another and gave that to Harvey.
"Here you go Harvey, we can both be lesbians now!"
Think you mean Indians Alyssa, Indians.
Obviously my little chat with her a while ago hadn't really worked after this classic of a conversation to a friend's baby girl.
Alyssa to baby "You look like a lesbian." very cutely said in a sing-song tone
Erm....Alyssa. Where have you heard that?
"It was on CBeebies"
Erm.......WHAT!? Describe what they said
"Well it began with an L."
.....Ah! You misheard them. They said leprechaun....leprechaun.
That evening we discussed that 'lesbian' isn't really appropriate word to be using to describe little girls. She asked what it meant so I explained it was when two women loved each other.
"Well I love her!...and I love you. We are all lesbians."
Good point. My explanation had flaws in it.
Take 2. Ok, well it's when they really love each other so that they want to be girlfriend and girlfriend or a Mummy and a Mummy.
I had thought she had understood but obviously not. How do other parents deal with these kind of situations? She is only 6 and growing up so fast that I don't want to be bombarding her with explanations of every little word.
I'd love to hear some advice!
HILARIOUS , your kids are so funny x
ReplyDeleteIt was one of those moments where I started laughing to myself out on the street.
DeleteHaha! This really made me chuckle! I love how children mistake words for others!
ReplyDeleteaw bless, some times its aceptable to hear them hear things like this they dont fully understand it and dont mean the words they say xx
ReplyDeleteEek! Love the innocence of children! Maybe say it's a word used to describe two GROWN UP women who are in love? Children who love each other are called friends :)
ReplyDeleteGreat advice! Two simple words that I need to add in. Thank you
DeleteLOL that is brilliant! I think you just have to explain these things to them - it is inevitable they will come out with something like this at the most inappropriate times!
ReplyDeleteLoling here! The things they come out with!
ReplyDeleteoh gosh, i have heard horrible stories with kids swearing after coming home from schools or nurseries, thats awful
ReplyDeleteArr bless *giggles* got to love what kids say :-) x
ReplyDeleteThe girl has a point!!
ReplyDeleteI love it !! kids are so funny at times aren't they
ReplyDeleteI think you said the right thing, and when she is older you can always explain more. Kids are funny though!
ReplyDeleteSorry but LMAO!!! I nearly spat out my drink HAHA! Awww so innocent! LMAO xx
ReplyDeletekids are so funny!
ReplyDeleteI did this as a little one; apparently I confused the work daffodil will dildo and announced this at the dinner table with my nan. She cut her meat into very small pieces and never said a word ;) They're priceless :)
ReplyDeleteLMAO! Fantastic!
DeleteOh brilliant, i love the innocence that comes with kids, i wish they didn't have to lose that! xxx
ReplyDeleteOh me too!
DeleteHahrrr, ohhh bless just love it .x
ReplyDeleteLOL and the problem is you don't want to say there's anything wrong with being a lesbian either.
ReplyDeleteYes exactly! :)
DeleteOh bless, that's so sweet. I guess I have that to look forward to!

ReplyDeleteChildren play with language and it is very amusing until it is your own child. I have a book where I write down all the idiosyncracies so that I can show them to the little one when he isn't so little anymore.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. You think that you'll remember these things but you just don't. I use my facebook page to instantly write things they say in case I forget .... and now my blog too!
Deleteoh gosh!! so funny ;)
ReplyDeleteAww bless her! Such innocence x
ReplyDeleteBless, that's so funny x
ReplyDeleteMy little man is always asking lots of questions and I find it difficult not to give them too much info that just confuses them more.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any advice because lesbian seems to be the favourite word of my 6 year old daughter at the moment as well! I gave basically the same explanation you did and hopefully she'll forget about it soon and we'll be on to the next one!
ReplyDeletePMSL! I love this - Kids are so innocent ...
ReplyDeleteI was thinking on Cbeebies OMG loooool
This has made my day, thanks for sharing hun.

haha oh bless her, I love the innocence of kids. I haven't had this yet with mine and to be honest I wouldn't quite know what to say! x
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny. We took Eliza to the farm the other day and she pointed to a donkey's willy and said as loud as day "Daddy, that donkey has a bigger willy than you!"
ReplyDeleteLMAO! That is so funny.
DeleteHehehe that is so funny - bless
ReplyDeleteHahhaah this is so funny!! x
ReplyDeleteit is funny but one day someone might get offended by it. I wish I had some wisdom to share on the matter but coming up empty, sorry :-(
ReplyDeleteI think lots of people are far too easily offended these days but it possibly says more about them than the children that has innocently said such things.
